Overview

Panopto is the video recording and storage solution utilized by UTSA, it is accessible from the Panopto website as well as from within Canvas courses, when enabled by the faculty teaching the course.

How to turn on closed captioning in Panopto?

To start, go to your Panopto video and select the Settings icon while hovering over the video picture.

In the video menu, select Captions (1) and then select Automatic Machine Captions (2) from the drop-down menu. Once selected, click Order (3) to start the captioning process.

Depending on your video length, this may take a few minutes to a few hours.

Any UTSA faculty member may request captions from our Digital Accessibility Team. Priority will be given to high-impact course content that can be reused or content that has difficult/technical jargon that is not easily recognized in automated captions.

To request captions beyond the scope of automatic machine captions, please email [email protected].

How do I share my Panopto video?

In Panopto, you can share two main ways. By adding an the recipients email to share directly to them or change sharing permissions to share as a link or embed code.

How do I download a Panopto video or audio?

Learn how to download your video or audio streams as MP4s to be able to upload them somewhere else or edit them using an external video editor.

How do I find a video I deleted in Panopto?

1. Start by going to System at the bottom of the left-hand menu and then click Recycle Bin.

2. Once you find your video, hover above the video image and click the Restore icon.

3. Your video will be restored and can be found in the original folder.

How do I make a Panopto Quiz?

In Panopto you have the ability to add quiz questions to any Panopto video at any point during the presentation. Quizzes can only be taken by users that are signed into Panopto. In this guide below, you will learn how to create and edit a quiz as well as how to review the results.

How do I check how many views my Panopto video has?

To view your Panopto video stats first, go to your video and hover over the video image. Then select the three vertical dots menu and select 'Stats.'

You will see the stats and chart as shown below for your video but be sure to change the drop down menu to 'Any time' to see views since the creation of your video.

How do I edit the download and sharing settings? (student)

In Panopto select the Settings "gearbox" icon on the video you would like to allow to share (download)

In "Overview" in the "Downloads" section make sure you have the settings for "Authenticated users with access" selected.

 Once you select an option, the Panopto site will automatically save your changes. Viewers who were granted downloading access will now see the download icon an underlined, downwards pointing arrow, in the upper right corner of the Panopto viewer.

I want to add a Panopto video to my departments UTSA website

Embedding a video on your UTSA department website can be requested. If you work within a college you will have a designated communications contact person. You can find that on the Academic Strategic Communications page.
