Zoom is UTSA’s powerful video conferencing tool that empowers faculty to communicate effectively with students, whether in fully online, hybrid, or even enhanced in-person course settings. This guide provides a quick introduction to Zoom's key features for educators and offers valuable resources to help you seamlessly integrate it into your teaching practices. 

Key Features

  • Interactive Tools for Collaboration & Feedback: Zoom offers features like: 
    • Breakout Rooms to divide students into smaller groups for collaborative activities and discussions, mirroring in-person group work. 
    • You can also use Screen Sharing & Whiteboard to easily share presentations or utilize an interactive whiteboard for dynamic explanations and brainstorming.
    • Furthermore, Polling & Non-Verbal Feedback allow you to engage students with interactive polls to gauge understanding and enable students to use non-verbal cues (like "raise hand," "yes/no," "speed up/slow down") for participation without interruption.
  • Chat Functionality: Facilitate real-time text-based communication, allow students to ask questions, share links, and collaborate.
  • Virtual Classroom & Office Hours: Host live synchronous sessions, deliver lectures, facilitate discussions, and hold virtual office hours.
  • Recording & Transcription: Record your sessions for students to review later, or for asynchronous learning. Zoom can also provide automated live captions and post-meeting transcripts, enhancing accessibility.
