Overview

The following offers a sample syllabus language detailing the use of Panopto, a powerful and user-friendly video platform that allows one to easily record lectures, create engaging video assignments, and share multimedia content securely with students.

Syllabus Statement

This course will use Panopto, a powerful and user-friendly video platform, for course lectures, content resources, and possible video assignments.

Please review the steps for “Accessing Course Videos” and “Submitting Your Own Videos for an Assignment” to become familiar with how to access and use Panopto within this course:

Accessing Course Videos:

Most instructors integrate Panopto directly within your Canvas course.

  • Navigate to Your Course: Log in to your LMS and go to the specific course where you expect to find Panopto videos.
  • Look for Panopto Integration: Instructors typically link Panopto in the course navigation menu (often labeled "Panopto Videos," "Course Videos," or "Panopto Recordings") or embed videos directly within modules, pages, or assignments.
  • Click and Watch: Click on the Panopto link or the embedded video to open the Panopto viewer. Here you can watch, pause, adjust playback speed, and often search within the video for specific words or phrases if captions are enabled.

Submitting Your Own Videos for an Assignment:

If your instructor requires you to submit a video using Panopto, they will usually set up an assignment within your LMS. You can follow the instructions below or use the following resource: How to Submit a Video Assignment.

  • Navigate to the Assignment: Go to the specific assignment in your LMS that requires a video submission.
  • Locate the Panopto Submission Area: Look for an option within the assignment to "Record or Upload Media" or "Submit via Panopto."
  • Choose Your Method:
    • Record: Select "Record" to launch the Panopto recorder directly within your browser or the Panopto desktop application (if installed). You can record your webcam, screen, or both.
    • Upload: Select "Upload" if you have a video file (e.g., .mp4, .mov) already saved on your computer that you wish to submit.
  • Follow On-Screen Prompts: Panopto will guide you through the recording or upload process. Ensure your microphone and camera are selected correctly when recording. Give your video a descriptive name.
  • Submit: Once your video is recorded or uploaded and processed, it will be linked to your assignment submission. Confirm the video is correctly attached and follow any final submission steps within your LMS.
