Getting Started with Turnitin (Faculty)

Updated on

Overview

Turnitin is a powerful web-based tool designed to support academic integrity for both faculty and students. It helps identify unoriginal content in student submissions by comparing them against a vast database of web pages, academic works, and previously submitted papers. This guide will provide faculty with an understanding of Turnitin's key features and offer essential resources for seamless integration into your courses.

Key Features:

  • Integrity Check (Plagiarism Detection): This tool generates a "Similarity Report" that highlights matching text in student submissions, helping to identify potential instances of plagiarism and promoting proper citation practices.
  • Efficiency and Academic Integrity Promotion: Turnitin streamlines the grading process by highlighting potential issues and providing customizable feedback options, reducing manual effort. It also serves as a clear signal to students about the importance of original work and proper citation, discouraging academic dishonesty.

How to Integrate Turnitin into Your Course

You can use Turnitin's Similarity and Originality features in your Canvas course since it's already integrated into all assignments. For detailed instructions on setting up an assignment with Turnitin, please review the:
