Peerceptiv Overview

Peerceptiv is a peer assessment tool that helps you improve your writing and critical thinking skills by giving and receiving feedback on assignments. This guide will walk you through the essential steps to navigate Peerceptiv within your course, ensuring you can successfully submit your work, provide constructive feedback to your peers, and learn from the feedback you receive.

How to Use Peerceptiv in Your Course

Access the Tool

You will typically access Peerceptiv directly from your school’s learning management system (LMS) like Canvas. Always use the link provided by your instructor in your course to ensure you're in the correct class.

  • Follow the Link: Navigate to the Peerceptiv assignment in your course and click the link to open the tool.
  • Create an Account: If it's your first time, you may be prompted to register. Use your school email address.
  • Troubleshooting: If you're having trouble accessing the tool, make sure you're using a supported browser like Chrome or Firefox, and that your browser's settings allow for cookies.

Once you're in an assignment, the dashboard will show you the status of your tasks and their deadlines. You'll see which phase you are in: Submission, Review, or Feedback. The dashboard is your central hub for all assignment-related activity.

  • Assignment Overview: Click on "View Assignment" to see the full description and rubric.
  • Task Status: The icons on the dashboard will indicate what you need to do next, like "Submit" or "Start a Review."

Submit Work

This is the first phase of an assignment where you upload your document or provide a link to your work.

  • Start Submission: From the dashboard, click the "Submit" button.
  • Upload/Link/Text: Follow the on-screen instructions to either upload a file, paste a link (make sure the permissions are set to "public" or "anyone with the link can view"), or type directly into a text box.
  • Confirm: After uploading, you will be prompted to confirm your submission. Double-check that it's the right file and looks correct before confirming.

Review Peers' Work

During this phase, you will provide feedback to a set number of your peers based on a rubric provided by your instructor.

  • Begin a Review: On the dashboard, click "Start a Review." You will be given a peer's submission to evaluate.
  • Use the Rubric: The rubric will guide you on what to look for. Use both the rating scales and comment prompts to provide specific and constructive feedback.
  • Be a Good Reviewer: Your ratings and comments should be fair and helpful. Avoid vague comments and instead, explain why a particular aspect of the work is effective or how it can be improved. The quality of your reviews affects your grade.

Understand Feedback

After the review phase, you'll be able to read the feedback you received from your peers.

  • View Your Feedback: Navigate to the feedback section of the assignment to read the comments and ratings on your submission.
  • Rate Helpfulness: You'll be asked to rate the helpfulness of the reviews you received. Be honest and thoughtful in your ratings. This feedback helps Peerceptiv evaluate the quality of your peers' reviews.

Grades

Your overall grade in a Peerceptiv assignment is not just based on the quality of your submission. It is a composite score that includes:

  • Submission Grade: Based on the ratings you received from your peers and instructor.
  • Reviewing Grade: Assesses the accuracy and helpfulness of the reviews you provided.
  • Task Grade: A simple measure of whether you completed all required tasks on time.

You can view a detailed breakdown of your grades on the assignment dashboard.
