Downloading Your SoftChalk Cloud Content

Updated on

Overview

If you previously used SoftChalk lessons in your course, you can download a copy of your content for backup or future use. If the lesson is in your SoftChalk account, downloading is straightforward. If it was embedded in Canvas or shared via a link, additional options are available. The methods below are grouped from quickest to more advanced, depending on how you can access your lesson.

If the Lessons Are in Your SoftChalk Account

Option 1 (Easiest): Download from Your SoftChalk Account

Use this option if:

  • You created the lesson, or
  • The lesson was shared directly with you in SoftChalk Cloud

Steps

  1. Log in to SoftChalk Cloud.
  2. Navigate to My Content > Lessons.
Top navigation bar of SoftChalk Cloud with the “Lessons” tab highlighted in red under the “My Content” section.
  1. Locate and click on your lesson.
  2. Scroll past the preview window and choose Download Lesson under the Lesson Actions menu.

  1. The .zip file will download to your computer.

This ZIP file contains your complete lesson and is the recommended format for backup or migration.

Option 2 (Easy): Use “Print All” in the Lesson Footer

Use this option if:

  • The lesson opens in Canvas or in your browser, and
  • You see a Print All button at the bottom (footer) of the lesson

You do not need to log in to SoftChalk for this option if the lesson loads normally.

Steps

  1. Open the lesson in Canvas or your browser.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
  3. Select Print All.
  4. The lesson will open as a single page.

To save as a webpage:
  1. Right-click anywhere on the page.
  2. Select Save As.
  3. Choose Webpage, Complete.
  4. Save the file.
To save as a PDF:
  1. Press Ctrl + P (Windows) or Command + P (Mac).
  2. In the printer destination options, select Save as PDF.
  3. Select Save.
  4. Choose where to store the file.

This saves your lesson as a single-page file. It does not create a ZIP package.

This option can also be helpful if you prefer a simplified version of your content without the full SoftChalk packaging.

Option 3: Generate Download Links from a Lesson URL (When Needed)

Use this option if:

  • The lesson is not in your SoftChalk account, and
  • The Print All option is not available

If you only have a link to a SoftChalk lesson, you can use the template below to quickly generate download and print links. This removes the need to manually extract the Lesson ID or build URLs.

Steps:

  1. Download the Excel template:
  1. Paste your SoftChalk lesson URL into Column A, SoftChalk Lesson URL.
    • Supported formats include:
      • HTML Preview URL
      • SoftChalk Lesson Detail URL
      • Canvas External Tool (LTI) URL
A spreadsheet with two columns labeled SoftChalk Lesson URL and Lesson ID. Three rows list different lesson links, all paired with the same lesson ID.
  1. Once entered, the following download links will be automatically generated in columns C, D, and E:
    • Download HTML ZIP file,
    • View Print All page (New URL format), or
    • View Print All page (Legacy URL format)
  2. Click the link directly from the spreadsheet to open it in your browser.

Depending on when your SoftChalk lesson was last modified, you may need to use the Print All Legacy URL format or the Print All New URL format.
